LA FELICIDAD Y LA CARRERA DE RATAS
El cortometraje de Steve Cutts 'Happiness' retrata a la sociedad consumista del siglo XXI y nos hace pensar si realmente es ésta la vida que queremos y el lugar donde encontrar la felicidad. Nos muestra lo que nos han vendido que es felicidad. Aunque durante los 4 minutos que dura el vídeo no parece que lo que vemos sean momentos felicidad. En el vídeo vemos una continua "carrera de ratas", un concepto que creó el autor Robert Kiyosaki.
Una carrera de ratas es una búsqueda interminable, contraproducente o inútil. La frase equipara a los humanos con ratas que intentan ganar una recompensa como el queso, en vano. También puede referirse a una lucha competitiva para salir adelante financiera o rutinariamente.
El término se asocia comúnmente con un estilo de vida agotador y repetitivo que no deja tiempo para la relajación o el disfrute.
En una analogía con las ciudades modernas, muchos pueden ver a los ciudadanos, como ratas en un solo laberinto, gastan mucho esfuerzo corriendo, y en última instancia no logran nada significativo, ya sea colectiva o individualmente. Esto se usa a menudo en referencia al trabajo, particularmente el trabajo excesivo o competitivo; en términos generales, si uno trabaja demasiado, uno está "en la carrera de ratas". HAPPINESS AND RAT RACE
A rat race is an endless, self-defeating, or pointless pursuit. The phrase equates humans to rats attempting to earn a reward such as cheese, in vain. It may also refer to a competitive struggle to get ahead financially or routinely.
The term is commonly associated with an exhausting, repetitive lifestyle that leaves no time for relaxation or enjoyment.
In an analogy to the modern city, many may see citizens, as rats in a single maze, expend a lot of effort running around, ultimately achieving nothing meaningful either collectively or individually. This is often used in reference to work, particularly excessive or competitive work; in general terms, if one works too much, one is "in the rat race". This terminology contains implications that many people see work as a seemingly endless pursuit with little reward or purpose (cyclical commute between home and work, akin to a rat running in circles or in a hamster wheel).
Cutts is an extremely sharp observer and critic of human society.
He paints a dark picture of the human pursuit of happiness. Far from finding real happiness, all our pursuits are temporary and doomed to fail. Whether it is consumer electronics, a brand new car, alcohol or drugs, nothing leads to lasting happiness. We always need stronger and stronger doses, or to switch to a heavier means of finding happiness. In the end, our desire to be happy – and chase money to afford it – enslaves us.
